welcome to the monkey house - kurt vonnegut

wow surprise. another vonnegut. im so annoying. am I? maybe I should be more confident or perhaps unapologetic. I like what I like, you like what you like. and so it goes… so welcome to the monkey house is a collection of short stories which are all fine and dandy but im going to talk about the titular story. because it just has stuck with me. it would stick with you too I reckon. how could it not? now ill tell you why. in the future the population doubles and its obviously a crisis. there’s already way too many people now how it is. so they give people forced medication that numbs them from the waist down so they won’t have sex and populate. like that would work, many women already feel like that and still copulate. anyways. I told you they’re all perverted. in this future dystopia they also advocate for euthanasia. they have theses suicide parlors run by these tall virginal women. there’s this rascal billy the poet who refuses to take the drugs and protests by taking the virginity of the parlor hostesses. he targets this one hostess and kidnaps her, he waits for the drugs to wear off then I will say I do think he rapes her, so thats not great. dont side eye me, are you? I dont like the story because of that, it just stuck with me. ok? anyways he claims the solution to overpopulation isn’t injecting people with boner killers and instead just use birth control. revolutionary right? I find that these post modernists are both perverted and obsessed with birth control. maybe it was just a newer concept at the time. I think if you asked any woman, perhaps not a religious devoter but most women, how to control overpopulation, they’d say the same thing. I won’t get into a sex ed debate right now, but it’s not a new concept to anyone I know. maybe we should inject testes with sperm killer if it ever gets that dire. or maybe vasectomies. that seems the most logical. whats the significance of the name billy with vonnegut? I do not know. im not interested enough to find out, I apologize. did you even get anything out of reading this? maybe disturbance. okay good bye. I love you.
